Age of Incompetence
Looking back over my first decade as an “adult” in America, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that we’ve slipped into a disturbing Age of Incompetence. It’s tempting to point the finger of blame at 8 years of George “What the Fuck?!” Bush. Certainly the case can be made for his staggering lack of aptitude, judgment, and perspective. And, without doubt, his presidency is likely to go down as the worst in history – a disaster of epic proportions. But I believe it would be a serious oversight if, as we try to understand our current crisis of competence, we remain silent on the most important culprit of all: us.
